Meet the team – Jess
This week, we’re excited to introduce Jess, our assistant conference and banqueting manager, who’s spoken to us about her day-to-day life at the hotel.
Tell us about yourself… what’s your job title, and how long have you worked at Balmer Lawn?
My name’s Jess, and I’m the new assistant C&B manager at Balmer Lawn. I’ve been here for 10 weeks now.
What’s the best thing about your job?
I love the fact that there’s always something different going on in the events industry – no two days are ever the same! This helps my job to stay very diverse, and I look forward to seeing what each day has to offer.
What’s the most unusual question or request you’ve had from a guest?
My most unusual request was probably one that I received at a wedding. A guest’s toe strap had become loose, and I was asked to glue it back onto the shoe!
What makes Balmer Lawn a great place to work?
The staff at the hotel are very friendly, and always willing to help wherever needed.
As Balmer Lawn is so dog friendly, if you were a dog, which one would you be and why?
I think I would be a Border Collie, as they are so focused – which, of course, is reflective of my approach to working at the hotel!
If you were a cake on the afternoon tea menu, which one would you be and why?
I would definitely be a lemon drizzle cake, as they’re tangy and enjoyable!
What item should you never forget when visiting Balmer Lawn?
Guests should always remember their swimwear, so they don’t miss out on our fantastic on-site spa experience.
Describe Balmer Lawn in three words…
I would describe Balmer Lawn as friendly, helpful and memorable.
Now describe Balmer Lawn without saying the words ‘hotel’, ‘New Forest’ or ‘guests’!
The team at Balmer Lawn is always willing to help with any query, whilst being dedicated to providing the best experience.
What’s the best activity to do in the New Forest/from the Balmer Lawn doorstep?
I’m a keen horse rider, and love heading out to the New Forest. So, I would say the most enjoyable activity for guests to try is horse riding – especially at Brockenhurst Riding Stables, which is located just down the road from the hotel.
Back in May, we also spoke to our housekeeper, Anita; click here to read her Q&A.
